Closeboard fencing uses vertical boards nailed or screwed to horizontal arris rails between posts. Boards meet edge to edge, giving a solid face without the gaps found in lap panels. It is widely used on rear boundaries in Leicester for privacy.
Construction details
Posts are typically 100 mm × 100 mm for runs up to 1.8 m, set in concrete. Gravel boards protect the bottom of the boards from soil contact. Capping rail optional.
Compare with feather edge fencing, where boards overlap rather than meet flush.
